our Lovebirds!
Our birds have a cage depending upon type. That is naturally like all cages too small. Therefore our birds enjoy some hours each day free flight . Actually they do not fly so much, but they sit mostly on the curtain staff and play together. We can let the two types fly only separately, since the Agaporniden always makes hunt for legs from budgerigar.
Actually we wanted a parrot. But, thank god! The reasonable human understanding has determined that it will be difficult, to become fair to an parrot. Because a playing, speaking parrot is perhaps for us humans the largest, but if "lad" nevertheless then a biting, a jealous, a crying and a plucking; gotten, what the matter now? Agaporniden are parrots which are completely honest.
Without handby-breeding they are not tameable. They speak only in their natural language and those volume is bearable . But they entice that one would like looking to their play with them for hours , what already once to the fact can lead that the Berg family laundry is not ironed!
Current:2002 All you can read after concerned the time before July 2001. There our Sunny died within fever in a few hours, the veterinary surgeon could not help unfortunately , the heart was probably too weak . Monty lived then a half year alone and now took up the contact to the beside-standing budgerigas, which really did not trust him however after the hunt for many years for their feet yet. More and more we came to the conviction of the fact that Monty is a female and it was clear for us that absolutely a further Agapornide, a male must in addition! We then found Kobi, a Blue colored pet and now practice the two the partnership! Kobi is now a half year old and as a married man still unfit. Monty shows it again and again that they would be ready for the Sex, but Kobi makes still so quite everything false, which wrong one can make there. But we do not want to breed also.
Our two, which in the behavior had it shown later, are probably two females, have no more fear before us, but only a adequate escape distance.

the Lovebird with the black head unfortunately had a flight accident and now he is blind on the right eye and while "Love birds" are fighting mostly, he has clearly more stress than
Sunny.
Therefore we have laid the soil of the cage with newspapers , which them now pluck in equal broad long strips expertly. Additionally it belongs to their favourite function to make the bath water with grain dirty .

We try to educate them with words and they succeeded.
Almost we must look to them, if they are flying in our room that nothing goes wrong.
We never leave them out from the eyes and if they make nonsens, we call loudly NO!
Immediately they succeed amazingly well, only sometimes we become almost hoarse thereby!
Play and fun!
Favourite play of our Montys is laundry brackets, small balls and other articles skillfully and intentionally throw down, which we put on the cage . We lift it then again up and so on, etc., etc..
This play and for example the other one which he dismount an external-bar of the cage from budgerigars and let fall it , bear him for hours, with obvious pleasure.
By the way these birds need a firmly screwed parrot bath and still almost the cage-area get wet.

Sample-breed!
Once in the year, usually in the winter, we permit our Agaporniden "breeding". Because we have obviously two females, Sunny takes over the female part. First however Monty must examine the incubator ( it hangs only then in the cage ).
If everything is alright, they take suitable small wood-material making from our mulberrybush, which we put into the cage, and fill the box . Although Sunny defends it vehement,nevertheless Monty is slipping in succeed usually in the evening . In the morning usually she "pushed him out" roughly. Sunny puts some eggs, which she preserves motherly and maintain (however it does not have success ).
After 4-6 weeks, or if we have the feeling, that the stress for Monty is too much, we turn out the NIST box again and everything is like in former times. Bevor the "breed-time" we already see that the aggressive attitude is more than normally and after "breeding time" the two are very close again.
Therefore we permit it!
If you can get some halfripe corncop in the early autumn , put one to the Agaporniden in the cage. Unfortunately the pistons are mostly treated by the farmers, but with a piston we do not see an all too large danger!!!
The birds have in any case their fun, whereby it does not concern so much food intake at all, but unique the tearing is in the foreground . Offer therefore the piston unpeeled. After some days then the interest goes out again and then the piston is removed.
