My hares and guinea pigs!

Gabriele's compension for a dog:

I always wanted a dog again. Since the time with my dog all animals are only a compension. I loved them, but only with a dog everything would been perfect.
At Easter at a beautiful day, we got two hares from our relatives which lived on a farm. My father had made a stable for the hares, and for hay and straw and dandelion was ensured.

Naturally I had fallen in love immediately with the rabbits and had not understood that these hares should be the roast at Christmas. First all was o.k. The animals were dear and beautiful, lively and merrily, if they conquered the garden. They were patiently and calmly, if I was cleaning the stable. I was the owner of the hare and I had the responsibility of them. At the start was also no problem. The work with the animals was new and interesting. But already soon it became annoyingly because I had to clean the stable, while my friends had holidays and were playing in the afternoon. I also want play with them but I had to sting dandelion on the large meadow. So ever more frequently my granny had to take over the unpleasant activities. Actually all could have known this, because already as i was a small child I had a conception over my later life: My parents should buy the Hecklinger castle ruin, make a zoo into, father for building, mother for the kitchen, granny for cleaning the stables and cages and mainly responsible would have been. I would look at animals and the cash! Therefore I wanted to become also veterinary surgeon!

In order to get a zoo, an acquaintance was allowed to give me 3 guinea pigs. After few months we had many guinea pigs and so had to be selected. I selected and keep 3 male and named them Hops, Stops and Peterle. My parents carried the remainder away. That I became not too sad, they had told me, the guinea pigs were well accommodated in the zoo of Waldkirch. They even drive with me to look for my animals. I saw a quantity of guinea pigs. More later I experienced that my animals were not in Waldkirch because they served a large snake as food.
But my three, Peter, Hops and Stops were safe by me. Together with the stable hares they were allowed to run under my (and my grannies) supervision in the garden. I attempted to take the guinea pigs at a leash if I was walking with them but I failed. The animals tried to arrive each dark hole or a hedge.
It was a good feeling to notice that one is expected. The hares are silent animals but the guinea pigs could pipe marvelously. They knew exactly, when I came from school and welcomed me loudly.
A half year had passed and I heard that my hare should be roasted. I had to learn that the meat which we eat, always an animal was before! I achieved a small partial success nevertheless. The hares were only slaughtered, when the femal hares get their babies. Now the hare babies needed the stables and the oldest hare must be killed. Our Christmas roast we eat always were a bought hare from a store. My killed hares only after a residence period in the deep-freeze sometime was eaten. Thus I could live, nevertheless I had baptized all hares, so that we can see ourselves again later in the paradies.

With the guinea pigs I did not need to think at roasts, although I know today that the Peruaner eats her gladly. One day however as I came home, sat Peterle in the cage and was completely apathetic. There I saw that two toes were so strongly torn that they hang down like a thin thread. Immediately it was clear, that I must help to him. I put mothers best white damask on the table, cooked tweezers and shears out for a half hour , put a glass liquor on the table, prepared me mentally for my first operation and get material for the first aid. Then everything had to go very fast. Peterle did not have time to cry, suddenly I had the two toes correctly amputated. Than I created a bandage. Some time, If I looked to him, he had the whole Bandage ripped away and licked its wound, which had healed some days after.
My guinea pigs became about 12 years old, until they died a natural death one after the other one.
