In Germany we have many problemes with fighting-dogs, like American Staffordshire, Pitbul, Bullterrier etc. The current fighting-dog regulation orders are not really helpful, but all people have an argument and discussion of this theme. Therefore today I dedicate an identical regulation for fighting-turtles. I think it`s very important, because some turtles can be little beasts, of course!
Fighting- turtles, are identifiable as such only by their behavior. They present a clearly agressiv behavior against human, while they sleep with their type comrades at night without changed features. But they are able to start a dangerous attack against humans.
All turtle owners should know this and save themselves against these typs. It cannot be right that such a turtle dominates its owner already in the age of only 2-3 years. By the example of our combat-turtles I want to report, what that means.
In first and also still in the second year of living, behaved our turtle babies dear and accordingly to their type. The appetit was super and the food was well assumed after preferences. The animals lived particularly in the garden predominantly hidden, what quite corresponds to their natur. Now, in this year become the character of the turtles in full extent evident. If now humans go in the garden,in order to offer food, it is unimportend, whether the animals know the humans, - the following happend: The young turtles first sniff briefly at the edible one, then they turn their head toward the unprotected fingers, raise in fractions of a second their head in the necks, tear the dangerous muzzle far, and then they bit.
These bites are continued until humans finally succeed himself by take to one`s heels. Expressly I say factly that we never make our turtles to combat-machines!
Occasionally, several times in the past years one could see in the TV , there are areas in the world, where this is operated intensively. (the USA Ninja Turtles).
A large interest of the military is assumed!
After our personal opinion, is this aggressive behavior by the young animals mostly an exaggerated, but normally , similar to the aggressively behavior that make our young people during the Puberty rebelling.
So, in the typical areas of the natural spreading of the land turtles, increase animal-carcass could be found, whose scraping tracks of the bones witnessed that turtles were present. In further literature it was published that land turtles eat also animal food, preferentially as carrion, that must be contradicted however in the meantime. The forecasting permits rather the conclusion that the turtles participate actively in the hunt for booty. Probably many dead lambs, are not killed from beast of preys, like dogs, vultures or eagles. They particularly are victims of aggressive turtles. We can not accept patiently this behavior of our turtles with the domestic keeping. patience maintance In the meantime will be explained clear by inquiry that more turtle-owners in Germany , which have plasters at their hands, ashamedly answer that do-it-yourself is therefor responsible. No,no and for the last time no! Belong with them, if your are a owner of such a combat-turtle, but take actions against! At the beginning to keep turtles you must be strict and consistent to them. Punish them never with ignoration , or blows - otherwise they became then brutally.
We recommend systems, like "turtleschools", where sorted "dog Leaders" work for this responsible activity . Also a "puppy group" would be recommended for the socialization of the young animals. (keep quarantine period of 2 months). In particularly hard cases you should work with an experienced turtle psychologist. It is not dishonor, if you avail yourselves of professional assistance.
Our special attention should we all take to the men , who makes the turtles savagely despite prohibition. Here it is only helpful, to announce such turtle owners to the authority. Of course no lover for turtles will ever participate in a turtle fight, neither as a spectator, nor as a user. Who wants to lose its cash with bets, can set his money further by a horse running. With this glossary word I would denounce the turtle race also . This sport have been occasionally already in Germany, in particular with initialization of kindergartens, village sport places and such a thing in the 50's and 60's-years of the past millenium. Therefore we require a order for the protection of humans before dangerous turtles, but in the same way a order for the protection of the turtles from dangerous humans.
